Ms. Emma: Ptolemy I began work on the Lighthouse around 300BC, though it wasn't completed until the reign of his son, Ptolemy II.

Ms. Emma: Sostratus, the architect, inscribed a message under the plaster that bore Ptolemy's insignia.

The plaster has since peeled away, revealing: "Sostratos of Cnidos, son of Dexiphanes, to the savior gods for sailors."

He used it to protect his supplies and reinforcements coming through the strait, ensuring his subdual of Egypt's forces.
